Members Transcription Service
This is
a new service for LHFS Members only. As much as we would like to offer this
facility to all, the society has decided to restrict this to members
only.
If you would like to use this facility you will need to
Join the Society.
Rules and
Guidelines
The members transcription service will be operated as
per the following rules and guidelines.
- The society will transcribe birth and marriage certificates
from 1855 to present and pre 1855 O.P.R. entries.
- The society will transcribe death certificates from 1855 to
present.
- The society will transcribe entries from the 1881, 1891 and
1901 censuses for the whole of Scotland. We will also transcribe entries from
the Lothians censuses for 1841 and 1851 that have been indexed by the society.
If enough information is given it may be possible to search other years.
- If a certificate or entry is not found the appropriate charge
will still be levied and a report of searches undertaken will be furnished.
- All envelopes containing transcription request forms should be
clearly marked RESEARCH.
- All requests from U.K. members should include a S.A.E. and
appropriate payment.
- All requests from non U.K. members should include the
appropriate payment plus an addressed envelope and sufficient international
reply coupons to cover return postage.
- A member may send multi requests but each one must be on a
separate form.
- A maximum of 30 minutes will be allowed for each search.
The charges for the transcription service will be as
follows: You now have two options: either download the
following forms and manage this by normal post or use our online
facility ( Please note there will be a small
additional shipping and handling charge using the online method)
